Method 3: Fixing Micro-Movements with Clean Plate Using NUKE​

This method is an effective way to fix micro-movements in stop-motion animation by leveraging the power of NUKE's clean plate, Roto, and Premult nodes. With this approach, you can ensure that your animation looks polished and seamless, as if the micro-errors never happened. By fine-tuning your mask edges and feathering, you can achieve a natural and smooth transition between your animation and the clean plate. This workflow helps take your stop-motion animation to the next level, delivering professional results that stand out.

Step-by-Step Guide
  1. Import Animation and Clean Plate Sequences
    • Add a Read node for your animation sequence and another for the clean plate (static frame).
    • In both Read nodes, set the color space to sRGB.
  2. Create a Merge Node
    • Add a Merge node and connect the animation sequence to the B input.
  3. Add a Roto Node Under the Clean Plate
    • Create a Roto node beneath the clean plate and connect it.
  4. Add a Premult Node
    • Insert a Premult node and connect it to the A input of the Merge node.
  5. Create Masks in the Roto Node
    • Draw masks in the Roto node to cover the micro-movements in your animation.
    • Tip: Select the mask and press Ctrl to adjust the feather for smooth transitions.
