Fiverr is one of the leading platforms for freelancers, offering an opportunity to monetize creative skills. For stop-motion animators, it’s a great chance to find clients, bring projects to life, and expand your portfolio. In this article, we’ll explore the essentials of starting on Fiverr, tips for success, and important details about fees.

What Is Fiverr and How Does It Work?

Fiverr is an online marketplace where freelancers offer their services (called gigs). Clients can order projects, and the platform facilitates communication, order management, and payments.

Popular stop-motion services on Fiverr include:

  • Animation for advertisements;
  • Short videos for social media;
  • Explainer videos;
  • Customized projects for events or gifts.

Fiverr Fees

  1. Freelancer Commission
    Fiverr takes 20% of every order. For example, if a client pays $100, you receive $80.
  2. Client Fees
    Clients are charged an additional fee when placing an order:
    • $2 for orders up to $50;
    • 5% for orders over $50.
  3. Withdrawal Fees
    When withdrawing earnings:
    • PayPal: Fees vary by country, typically $1–$3;
    • Bank transfer: $3–$5, depending on the method chosen.
Fiverr provides transparency, so you’ll always see the net amount after deductions.

Benefits of Working on Fiverr for Stop-Motion Animators

  • Global Reach
    Connect with clients from around the world.
  • Flexibility
    Set your own schedule and choose the projects you want to work on.
  • Monetize Your Hobby
    Turn your passion for stop-motion animation into a profitable career.

My Experience and a Word of Caution

As a stop-motion animator, I’ve encountered some challenges working on Fiverr. One common issue is that many clients underestimate the cost and complexity of stop-motion projects. They may not realize that beyond animation itself, there are multiple crucial stages, such as:
  • Preparation: Designing sets, props, and characters;
  • Pre-production: Storyboarding and refining concepts;
  • Post-production: Editing, sound design, and final touches.
Often, clients have a vague idea of what they want but cannot clearly articulate their vision. To avoid unnecessary time spent on revisions or clarifications during production, it’s essential to:
  1. Clearly explain the scope of work before accepting a project.
  2. Outline each stage of the process and its value.
  3. Get client approval on key milestones to minimize misunderstandings.
Proper communication and setting clear expectations can save both time and effort, ensuring a smoother collaboration for both parties.

Conclusion

Fiverr is a fantastic platform for those willing to develop their craft and grow their portfolio. The key is to stay active, creative, and client-focused. Don’t hesitate to start with small projects—over time, you’ll find your audience and build a successful freelancing career.

My experience on Fiverr over the course of a year: I completed only two orders and received a Pro account status. However, I often received messages from bots and scammers who wasted my time. After I responded rather harshly to one of the scammers, my account was blocked. Attempts to contact customer support were ignored. After being blocked on Fiverr, I felt a great sense of relief — I was no longer bothered by scammers and spammers, and I stopped wasting my time. I have no intention of returning to this platform, as it is turning into something terrible!!!
