Some interesting facts about the movie.
The background landscapes are taken with Google Maps street views accurately in the same places where the events happened. Except the night views, the night views are random. Some of them are edited in photoshop - I removed modern things like power poles etc. In some I manually drawn in lines of soldiers. Murphy's farm is a real historical site, there still rusty cannons staying around. My initial scenario included the capture of Murphy's farm episode, but later I cut it off, since the movie was becoming too long.
The voice of General McLellan is one of french actor Louis DeFunes. McLellan's nickname was "small Napoleon", so I thought it would be appropriate to show him as a short Frenchman. Although I really don't know how the voice McLellan sounded. His figure is the only one scaled 1/87, the rest are 1/72. Colonel Benjamin Franklin Davis was born in Alabama and risen in Mississippi, had a strong Mississippi accent, that helped him to mislead the southerners. He's voiced over by Morgan Freeman (unknown for him) who also was risen in Mississippi. Other voices are random.
The background cannonade is actually July 4th firework.
Songs are the ones of the times of the Civil War. When I show Confederates, I enable the Confederacy songs, otherwise - Union songs. I tried to find the oldest performance I could, so they sound the most authentically. Horn signals are real signals of the US Army, taken from their website. The prayer is the text of the real prayer prepared specially for the Civil War. Many phrases are historically authentical. McLellan's words: "Here's a paper with which if I can't whip Bobby Lee I well be willing to go home." etc. Most of characters are real persons. "Greasy Jim from Texas" and unnamed soldiers and officers are made up.
